Description:
Journeymen or formal apprenticeship program preferred. An ability to build, repair, and maintain: dies, fixtures, and all other tooling in conformance to customer / company specifications per control plans. Major Responsibilities: • Responsible for the development, maintenance and/or repair of stamping dies (both progressive & secondary dies) in accordance with Engineering supplied blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions. • Support production department with tooling needs; respond to shop-floor calls in a timely manner • Assure safe operation and care of tool room equipment • Produce quality work in a timely manner • Assess complex tooling and equipment needs and refurbish as required • Troubleshoot and solve tooling problems without assistance • Set up and operate all tool room equipment. • Work to continuously improve tooling and reduce scrap • Housekeeping and other activities as assigned • Ability to lead continuous improvement and emergency repair projects individually or within a team • Must be willing to share knowledge of the trade and train apprentices Skills and Competencies: • Ability to read tool and die designs and prints • Basic shop math and trigonometry • Ability to use precise measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gage blocks, dial indicators, etc. • Ability to operate all standard tool room equipment such as milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, lathes, etc. CNC machine set up a plus. • Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. • General knowledge of tool and die design including various tool steels/carbides and their application is a plus. • Able to work independently. • Must be able to work without supervision and lead small teams as may be required • Ability to work with appropriate outside vendors • Ability to train and develop apprentices • Individual must be self-motivated • Ability to read, write, and speak English • Ability to communicate well with others • Ability to work overtime Qualifications: • Journeyman Tool & Die Maker and/ or completion of an apprenticeship (4 years) or advanced manufacturing certificate, followed by at least 4 years of on the job • 5 years’ experience in the trade; emphasis on small precision stampings from progressive dies • High school or equivalent (Preferred) • An ability to communicate effectively in English both in writing and verbally (Preferred) • Must be legally authorized to work within the United States (Required) • Knowledge/ experience with of AutoCad, Solidworks, and EDM (a Plus) #CBRC
